What has been the most surprising part of your Rice MBA experience?
The experiences people come into the MBA with and how much everyone can contribute to the overall experience. That first week (and for me, that first year) was a considerable imposter syndrome experience. I was in Tech Sales before starting the MBA and thought I did not have the experience as others to contribute adequately. However, I would say most people experience that syndrome at least once. Everyone is at Rice for a reason and can contribute to the cohort and the school. So do not hesitate to ask any question because the odds are that half the class is thinking the same thing.
What has been your favorite thing about your MBA experience so far?
The People, both students and faculty. Maybe a third of what I have learned in the MBA has come from the classroom, but the other two-thirds have been from my fellow students and the faculty. Everyone wants you to succeed. The environment and people make me want to come to class after a full day of work.
What do you LOVE most about Houston?
The culture, food, and atmosphere. Houston is one of, if not the best, city for food and culture. Houston is the 4th largest city in the United States, and because of that, there are so many cultures and things to experience in the town. There are excellent local restaurants, bars, concert venues, and places to visit, all within the Greater Houston area.
What is one piece of advice you would share with a prospective student?
Do it. Whether that is if you are wondering about applying or deciding between Rice or another school. Apply and come to Rice. It has been one of the more challenging years of my life and career. However, it has been one of the most rewarding years, professionally and personally. I would not have the opportunities or experiences without the Rice PMBA program.
