Yu-Cheng Hsu
Senior Consultant, FTI
Yu-Cheng Hsu is a Senior Consultant in FTI Consulting's Power and Renewables practice within the Corporate Finance and Restructuring segment. His work centers on financial and lender advisory and strategy initiatives in the energy transition. Before joining FTI in May 2023, Yu-Cheng gained over 4 years of experience in the energy sector at Mitsubishi Corporation (Americas), where he was part of the Natural Gas Group's business development team. There, he identified strategic investments in U.S. LNG export and energy transition projects, including renewable natural gas from biomass for programs like LCFS and RFS. In his role, Yu-Cheng conducted commercial, technical, and financial due diligence to support Mitsubishi’s decarbonization goals. He also assessed carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) projects and stayed informed on federal and state policies, such as 45Q tax credits and permitting policies. One key project involved developing an "e-methane" natural gas replacement with Japanese partners, sourcing CO2 and green hydrogen for LNG exports to Japan. He also engaged in strategic discussions with senior executives to evaluate the feasibility of various projects. Yu-Cheng also supported a $100 million investment in Breakthrough Energy Catalyst, backing technologies in direct air capture, hydrogen, energy storage, and sustainable aviation fuel.
Currently at FTI, he focuses on lender advisory projects for U.S. Department of Energy Loan Program Office projects, including ATVM and Title 17 program projects in the electric vehicle supply chain and renewable energy, underwriting loans between $80 - $1,500 million. He holds a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Washington and an MBA from Rice University, specializing in finance and energy transition.
