Laura Schachner
Assistant Director, Student Support and Academic Advising
Being from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, I am not a native of Texas. But I feel as though Texas is becoming home thanks to my love of barbeque sides (I am a vegetarian, but I do enjoy a baked potato) and the beautiful, ice-free winters.
I have a background in music performance, specifically classical singing, and I enjoy performing in Houston and other areas in Texas. I live in the Southside Place area with my husband, who is also at Rice and teaches vocal coaching at the Shepherd School of Music.
In my free time, I attend fitness classes (I am currently enjoying some boxing sessions), and on Saturday mornings you can find me feeding baby squirrels at the Texas Wildlife Center. My favorite part about being at Rice is helping and connecting with students, walking around the beautiful campus and collaborating with my amazing colleagues.
