I grew up in Chicago, but the plan was always to end up in Houston, since my family has deep ties here (and I hate cold weather). I moved all over the country for undergrad and grad school — from rainy Oregon to the mountains of Colorado to the swamps of Louisiana.
I love to travel, and if I’m not at work or riding my horse, then I’m probably on a road trip — the kind where you stop to hike, visit cheesy roadside attractions and eat at quirky, local restaurants. (If you’re ever in Norwalk, CT, I highly recommend the Dilly Duck Shop! And sorry, Iowa, I am a firm believer that sauerkraut does not belong on pizza.)
What are you currently listening to?
Probably the radio broadcast of the Astros game.
What are you reading?
I’m inevitably reading some sort of poetry and then a nonfiction book, likely whatever Erik Larson has just published.
What is your favorite comfort food?
Sadly, the kind of food you can only seem to get in Chicago. I hear Portillo’s is coming to Houston, though, so I’m really excited! Now if we could only get a real Chicago-style pizza place! Giordano’s, are you listening?
