Why did you select Rice Business for your MBA?
Rice has a great energy finance program and was very generous with their acceptance offer. I was honored to be selected as the Crownover Scholar winner, receiving full tuition plus a cost-of-living stipend as well as direct mentorship with Jim Crownover.
How has Rice helped you with your career?
Business school was a life changing experience. I would never be able to work in finance without having a well-known and well-respected program like Rice on my resume.
What is the most important advice you’d like to share with prospective and current students?
The curriculum for any top 25 business school is identical, what differs is the network. Use the Rice network – past and present – as this is the true value of your business degree. Take part in as many of the social events as possible. You’ll never regret a Partio.
What have you valued most in the Rice black student and / or alumni network?
How generous black students and alumni were with their time. I participated in early diversity recruiting events like MLT, Toigo and Jumpstart, which required interviewing and networking months before school even started. Speaking with alumni, I was able to get program tips, mock interviews and resume help. Without this help, I don’t think I would’ve been able to secure early offers to MBA internships.
Anything else you’d like to share?
Going to Rice changed my life and was the best career and professional development decision I ever made. Going to business school is a tough decision that requires dedication and sacrifice. The application process is daunting and forces you to be vulnerable and honest about your true motivations. You’re giving up income and two years of your time, but never doubt that taking the time and money to invest in yourself is worth it!
