Benedict Guttman-Kenney

Benedict Guttman-Kenney is an assistant professor of finance. Before joining Rice, Benedict earned two degrees from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business: an MBA and a Ph.D. in economics. During his doctoral studies, he received a National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) Dissertation Fellowship on Consumer Finance for his research. He also graduated from the University of Warwick with a B.Sc. and University College London with an M.Sc. Prior to his Ph.D. studies in Chicago, Benedict spent six years working in consumer finance research. During this time, he contributed to financial regulation efforts at three institutions: the UK's Financial Conduct Authority, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and the Bank of England.

Benedict's research examines household finance topics that are both academically compelling and applicable to shaping consumer financial protection policies. This research is grouped into two broad topics: (1) the economics of credit information, and (2) behavioral household finance. His research has been published in leading economics, finance and marketing academic journals, with media coverage including the New York Times and the Financial Times.
