What about the Rice MBA program has surprised you the most?
The benefits of Rice's small class size and, in particular, the quality of and access to faculty. I often found myself looking forward to lectures because of the professors' ability to stimulate and guide engaging class discussions on a variety of topics. Outside of class, I often met with professors to discuss lectures, assignments, and even their research or careers, all of which contributed substantially to my knowledge and, to be honest, made the classes a lot more fun!
What has been your favorite moment of your Rice MBA experience so far?
I think a lot of people feel this way but meeting and becoming friends with a such a diverse group of people from such a wide array of backgrounds has been incredible. Oftentimes, before class starts and students are chatting with each other, you can pick at least 5 different languages out of the din. I found it very special to be immersed in such a variety of cultures. In a more academic sense, I notice myself thinking differently and more competently about daily goings-on. My business literacy has grown exponentially during my time at Rice, which is something I had hoped for, of course, but was surprised at how quickly it happened.
What is your favorite thing about and/or favorite spot in Houston?
Montrose. I love the architecture of the homes, the character of the neighborhood, the proximity to campus, and, of course, all the bars and restaurants within walking distance.
In a sentence, what is the one piece of advice you have for prospective students?
In terms of your MBA, make sure you explicitly understand your priorities and motivations, professionally but especially personally, to inform what you want to get out of your experience at Rice.
