Mark Sooby

Mark A. Sooby is a distinguished energy professional with over 40 years of experience in acquisitions and divestitures (A&D), mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and corporate finance. He holds a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from Kansas State University and an MBA from Wichita State University. 

Mark began his career at Kansas Gas & Electric, working on power plant operations and the Wolf Creek Nuclear Generating Station. He then moved into consulting, focusing on oil and gas operations and property valuation. 

In 1984, he joined Pacific Enterprises Oil Company, progressing through leadership roles at NationsBanc Capital Markets, ARCO International, and Petrie Parkman & Co. His investment banking career includes senior positions at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Deutsche Bank, and Lazard, where he led transactions totaling over $160 billion. 

Currently, Mark is the Managing Member of Mark Sooby – Energy Advisor LLC, advising clients on A&D, M&A, and capital sourcing strategies. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Kansas and a FINRA-registered Securities Principal and Representative. Mark has presented at major industry conferences and is a board member of the Petroleum Club of Houston and the Houston Energy Forum. 

Outside of work, he enjoys family time, basketball, guitar, and nature.
