Richard G. Greenhill has spent his career solving the problems that keep healthcare executives awake at night declining quality metrics, patient safety challenges, and the persistent gap between healthcare’s promise and its operational reality. As Principal and Founder of SmartSigma AI, he leads work at the intersection of quality improvement, operational excellence, and AI-enabled innovation, helping healthcare organizations translate artificial intelligence into measurable improvements in quality, efficiency, and patient outcomes.
Dr. Greenhill was elected by his international peers to the prestigious International Academy for Quality and Safety (IAQS), one of the highest lifetime honors in global healthcare quality. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal for Quality in Healthcare, Communications (Oxford University Press) and as national faculty for the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).
A sought-after international speaker on AI in healthcare delivery and healthcare quality, Dr. Greenhill brings a scholar-practitioner perspective that blends academic rigor with real-world execution. Honorably retired from the U.S. Navy Medical Department, he has published extensively across peer-reviewed journals, textbooks, and professional periodicals. His work focuses on what works in real healthcare organizations moving beyond pilot projects to sustainable, system-wide transformation.
