CoachRICE: A Leadership Coaching Program

• Coaches interested in pursuing a professional credential with the International Coaching Federation
• Internal organization coaches who want to enhance their skillset
• Managers and leaders who want to coach and develop their employees
• Professionals in allied fields who want to add coaching skills to their portfolio
• Human resource (HR) and organizational development professionals (OD&T) who want to deepen their expertise

This program includes instructional modules, partnering coaching, mentor coaching, a self-study, and a performance evaluation. The program is delivered through a combination of instruction, presentations, discussions, dyadic exercises and other interactive methods and independent studies. All required modules, including pre-class hours, are completed over a period of ten months. This program is offered in English.

The Fall 2024 Cohort begins in August and includes four in-person learning Modules delivered on the Rice University campus. Additional program elements will take place virtually via Zoom and on Canvas.

The upcoming 2025 Online Cohort that begins in January will be facilitated virtually via Zoom.

All modules are delivered in Standard English (U.S.). Students must be able to fully commit to the schedule. If a class is missed, students are required to wait and attend a future module that corresponds to the missed content and will be charged a make-up fee.

Module One: Introduction to Leadership Coaching 
Introduction to Coaching will cover an in-depth overview of the practice of coaching. Topics will include self-awareness and personal development as a coach, emotional intelligence for leaders, and core competencies such as coaching presence and establishing agreements.

Module Two: Essential Tools and Methodologies for Coaching
This module focuses on the process of coaching and examines various models that support a coaching conversation. Participants will practice the listening and communication skills necessary for cultivating trust and evoking awareness with a client.

Module Three: Facilitating Client Growth
This module focuses on goal creation, accountability and managing progress with a client. Participants will explore the common barriers, challenges and mindsets encountered in leadership coaching.

Module Four: Inclusion Practices in Coaching
This module will increase coaches’ sensitivity to issues of diversity, equity and cultural competency and examine the importance of the ICF Code of Ethics. Participants will be evaluated on all ICF core competencies and provided with an overview of the ICF-credentialing process.

All content was created by the Doerr Institute using evidence-based techniques and is supported with research-validated outcomes.

Program fee: $12,995

The program fee covers all program elements EXCEPT the cost of textbooks
(estimate of $200) and any make-up fees associated with program absences. A
reading and resources list will be provided to accepted applicants of the program.

After admission decisions are announced via email, admitted program participants
will have three (3) weeks to confirm enrollment with a payment of at least 50% of the
total program fee. The full program fee is due one (1) month prior to the start date of
the program. If fees will be paid by a company and additional time is required to
process an initial payment, the participant must provide a $1500 good faith deposit
no later than three (3) weeks after acceptance to the program to confirm enrollment.
The good faith deposit will be refunded when the full program fee is received. No
exceptions.

Refund Policy

Attendance in the CoachRICE program requires significant advance preparation. As
such, you must provide written notice of cancellation for any reason at least 30 days
prior to the program start date to be eligible for a 75% refund. Participants who
provide no notice OR submit a written notice of cancellation fewer than 30 days prior
to the program start date for any reason are not eligible for a refund. No exceptions.

Reschedule Terms
I understand that if I miss a class, I am required to wait and attend a future module that corresponds to the missed content. I will be charged $500 for up to four hours of make-up instruction and $750 for up to 8 hours of make-up instruction. The Doerr Institute for New Leaders will generate the invoices for the missed sessions and must receive payment prior to attendance of the make-up module.

Mentor Coaching Reschedule Terms

I understand that if I miss any portion of a learning Module, I am required to attend a
future Module that corresponds to the missed content. I will be charged $50/Day for
make-up learning. Rice Business Executive Education will generate the invoices for
all missed portions of a learning Module and must receive payment in full prior to
attendance of the make-up Module.

I understand that if I miss any portion of an Observation coaching session, I am
required to make up that session. I will be charged $50/session for Observation
coaching session make-ups. Rice Business Executive Education will generate the
invoices for all missed Observation coaching sessions and must receive payment in
full prior to attendance of the make-up session.

I understand that if I miss any portion of a scheduled Mentor Coaching group or
individual session, I am required to make up that session with my Mentor Coach. I
will be charged $50/session for Mentor Coaching session make-ups. I understand
that if I cancel a Mentor Coaching individual session less than 48 hours in advance
of the scheduled session, I must pay a late cancellation fee of $50. Rice Business
Executive Education will generate an invoice and must receive payment in full prior
to attendance of the make-up session.

Financial Aid

CoachRICE Level 1 is a non-degreed professional certificate program accredited by
the International Coaching Federation (ICF). Program completion does not earn
college credit toward a post-secondary degree program. As such, Rice University
does not accept traditional financial aid for CoachRICE, including but not limited to
federally funded student loans and/or Veterans Administration/GI educational
benefits. Many participants receive full or partial sponsorship from their organization
and/or accept private loans to support their participation. Rice Business Executive
Education and the Doerr Institute for New Leaders are pleased to offer a 10%
discount to current Rice staff and faculty, as well as Rice University Alumni.

• Bachelor's Degree
• Minimum five years of experience with preference given to those who have worked in human resources, organizational behavior, organizational development, or a related field
• Leadership experience -- It is not a requirement that the applicant be in an official supervisory position. Rather, we recognize that participants will benefit from being able to reflect on past leadership experiences in a variety of professional or community-based situations (e.g. team leader for a project, role in a civic organization, opportunity for influence in a sports or religious organization, etc.)
• Application must be completed by the application deadline and include all information requested including an up-to-date resume or CV
• In order to maintain a focused learning environment, participants should work to minimize distractions during class and mentor coaching sessions. Modules and sessions begin on time, so participants should be in the assigned place and ready to learn when the modules/sessions begin. Participants must join live virtual modules, mentor coaching sessions, and any other live, virtual activities from a location with stable internet. Participants may not join live virtual sessions if they are in transit (driving, riding in a vehicle, walking), or in a public setting (airport, restaurant, etc.). Participants must join in a private space with no background noise or distractions. Cameras should be on for the duration of live, virtual sessions. Participants should be polite and respectful to everyone, including participants, instructors, administrators, support staff, and visitors. Rice reserves the right to ask participants who behave in a disrespectful way to leave the program.
