Rice Business Mahjong and Mingle
Join fellow Rice Business alumni for an engaging evening of connection, conversation, and friendly competition at our introductory Mahjong and Mingle event. This interactive experience is designed for beginners and curious players alike, featuring guided instruction from an experienced Mahjong teacher who will walk guests through the fundamentals of the game in a welcoming and social environment.
The evening will begin with networking and light refreshments from 5:30–6:00 p.m. before transitioning into hands-on Mahjong instruction and gameplay. Rice Business will provide all mats, tiles, and racks, so guests can simply arrive ready to learn and enjoy.
Whether you are looking to pick up a new hobby, meet fellow alumni, or experience one of today’s most popular social games, this event offers a fun and approachable way to spend the evening on campus at McNair Hall’s Anderson Family Commons.
The evening’s instruction will be led by Paula Carroll, an experienced Mahjong teacher and longtime enthusiast who has been playing the game for more than three decades. Having taught at international schools across Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia since 2002, Paula began teaching Mahjong in each new city she called home as a way to build community and share her passion for the game. Drawing from years of experience introducing new players to Mahjong, she brings a welcoming and approachable style to teaching one of today’s fastest-growing social games in the United States.
