Join us on February 7 (5:30 pm to 7:00 pm) for a special conversation between host Scott Gale '19 and our guests, Ruth Oh Reitmeier, Director of Coaching at Rice Business and Brent Smith, Senior Associate Dean for Executive Education and Associate Professor of Management and Psychology. They will discuss their research and insights on the science of leader development and leadership, managing human capital with the rise of 'Zillennials,' and how the Rice Business “Leader as Coach” program prepares our MBA students to be transformational leaders.

Ruth Oh Reitmeier is a seasoned coach and leader with over 25 years of experience developing leaders and building high performing teams in various organizations. Most recently, Ruth was the senior assistant director of coaching at the Doerr Institute for New Leaders where she was responsible for multiple coaching initiatives, including leading and managing a team of 45 coaches, teaching CoachRICE: A Leadership Coaching Program, and building a bespoke program for coaching department chairs. She has served as a consultant to dozens of universities who seek to implement coaching programs for student development.

Dr. Brent Smith is an award-winning organizational psychologist and has educated, coached, and consulted for over twenty years. Dr. Smith currently serves as the Senior Associate Dean of Executive Education. He previously was a faculty member at London Business School and Cornell University and taught at UC Berkley, Oxford University, INSEAD, Columbia, DTU, and the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad.
Dr. Smith has taught over 200 executive programs around the globe for companies including Shell, ExxonMobil, IBM, HSBC, Credit Suisse, Saudi Aramco, Goldman Sachs, Genentech, DeBeers, Microsoft, Citibank, RedBull, Royal Bank of Scotland, among many others. He served as leadership faculty for the corporate universities of TOTALEnergies, Lufthansa, Tenaris, NOV, and Eaton Corporation and is a founding board member of the MD Anderson Cancer Center Leadership Institute.
Dr. Smith co-developed the coaching programs for the MBA programs at Cornell University and London Business School, and used them as models for the Rice Business Executive MBA. He helped develop internal coaching programs for a large investment bank, an international energy company, and a major hospital system. In 2003, he developed the “Leader as Coach” Executive Education program, which he taught until 2016. Dr. Smith has been an active coach since 1997. His practice focuses primarily on the development of executive teams.

As Executive Director at Halliburton Labs, Scott is responsible for launching the organization in 2020. He currently oversees External Engagement and collaborates to build a thriving clean energy community on the Third Coast and around the world. He joined Halliburton in 2014 where he managed multiple strategic efforts taking new technologies from ideation to commercial success at scale. Scott holds a chemical engineering degree from Brigham Young University and is a graduate of Rice Business where he founded the Jones Student Association for Executives. He's also the Co-founder of [un]Brands and Voice Standard. In 2022, Scott was named as one of Oil and Gas Investor's Forty Under 40, a program that honors and celebrates trailblazers in the energy sector. He actively supports multiple startup organizations as a mentor, advisor, and investor.
