Partners and Families
We know that you may be facing a tough decision; where you spend the next two years (and the rest of your life as an alum) is a pretty big deal! We also understand that you may not be making this decision in a vacuum. We want you to be happy with your decision, and we want those around you (your spouse, partner, children, family, friends - or whomever is important in your life) to feel comfortable as well.
We want to make sure that your support group and loved ones know that they are included as part of the Rice Business community. We keep them involved through events such as Partio (Party on the Patio), MBA Gala, and community service opportunities- to name a few. We even have a Family Partio with kid-friendly activities such as arts and crafts, face painting, and bounce houses. Additionally, a group of significant others are creating their own club!
As the newest member of our Rice family, we want you to know that we are here to help in any way that we can during this exciting time. If you are going to be relocating to Houston, learn more about moving to Houston and why we love calling H-Town "home."
Childcare Resources
Rice Children’s Campus
Operated by the Center for Early Childhood Education, the Rice Children’s Campus is one of Houston’s premier early learning facilities serving the children of Rice University faculty, staff and students, age birth through five. Please visit the CECE website for more information.
Summer Programs
Rice’s Recreation Center has a Summer Youth Activity Program, and Rice faculty, staff, and students receive a discount.
Rice has partnered with Kidventure to offer summer camp programs to faculty and staff at their convenient locations across Houston — as a Rice employee you receive a 50% discount on “before” and “after camp” care! Please visit our Kidventure page for more information.
YMCA – Texas Medical Center
Rice is a member of the Texas Medical Center so Rice community members (faculty, staff, graduate students, or undergraduate students) are welcome to the YMCA child care center.
Just let the YMCA staff know that you are a Rice community member, and the application fee should be waived.
Mothers' Rooms
Rice’s lactation rooms are places for nursing mothers to pump breast milk or nurse their child in a private and comfortable setting. For access information and other details, please refer to the Mothers' Room page.
Other Resources
Houston and the Rice area have a lot of different alternatives for child care services. There are several tools available to you to assist you in your search:
- The Texas Department of Family & Protective Services offer a free child care search tool.
- Collaborative for Children offers free child care resource and referral services. Click on the link above or call them at 713-660-1234 to access their free services.
- Many of Houston ISD’s elementary schools have pre-school programs and after-school programs — go to HISD’s website for more details.
