Russia’s 2022 invasion of neighboring Ukraine disrupted energy markets in Europe and Eurasia. Prior to the war, Russia supplied approximately 30-40% of Europe’s fossil fuels – a significant portion of which moved through Ukraine. Russia’s invasion and the West’s resulting sanctions have begun to hit the energy trade, causing both Russia and its European customers to face a sudden transformation.
This webinar will shed light on the factors behind European dependence on Russian fossil fuels, the distinctive paths Western and Central and Eastern Europe have taken with regards to energy source diversification, the road forward for both Europe and Russia, and the implication for global policy and global markets at a time when there is a strong push for energy transition.
