Astro Teller is a leading American scientist, inventor, entrepreneur and author known for pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. As the “Captain of Moonshots” at X, the Moonshot Factory (formerly Google X), he leads teams on a mission to invent and launch breakthrough technologies that tackle some of humanity’s toughest challenges.
Before joining the Moonshot Factory, Teller founded and grew several technology companies. He holds numerous U.S. and international patents in both hardware and software and has authored three books exploring the intersections of science, creativity and the human spirit.
Following opening remarks, Teller will join Rice alumnus and energy industry leader Andy Karsner ’89 for a panel discussion titled “Why We Still Choose to Go to the Moon: Innovation for Today’s Challenges,” moderated by President Reginald DesRoches.
