Margaret Beier

Margaret Beier is a professor and chair of the Department of Psychological Sciences at Rice University.
Her research focuses on individual and environmental influences of motivation for and success in lifelong learning in work and educational contexts. Her work has received funding from Microsoft Corp., the Institute for Education Science and the National Science Foundation.
She has served on committees of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine. The committees produced the consensus reports "How People Learn II: Learners, Contexts and Cultures" in 2018 and "Are Generational Categories Meaningful Distinctions for Workplace Management?" in 2020.
Beier is an associate editor at the journal Work, Aging and Retirement. She has published in the Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Business and Psychology, Personnel Psychology and Psychological Bulletin.
She holds a doctorate from the Georgia Institute of Technology. She's a fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychologists and the Association for Psychological Science.
