James Andrews
Director of Operations, Galveston Texas City Pilots
Jim Andrews currently serves as the director of operations for the Galveston Texas City Pilots, a group of maritime professionals appointed by the Governor of Texas to ensure the safety of ships, ports and waters of Galveston County. Prior to this appointment, he served as the president of Harbor Services, a maritime company providing harbor docking and push boat services along the Louisiana and Texas coasts; and as the director of safety and personnel for G&H Towing Company, one of the largest harbor tug operators in the nation. Jim is a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, where he served 11 years in seagoing billets and held command of Coast Guard Cutter THUNDER BAY, a 140-foot icebreaking harbor tug in Rockland, Maine; and Coast Guard Cutter DAUNTLESS, a 210-foot multi-mission ship home-ported in Galveston, Texas, primarily focused on counter-narcotics in the Caribbean.
Jim earned an MBA from Rice University, where he was the recipient of the Mike Wright Award and the Jones Citizen Award; a Master of Science in oceanography from the University of Rhode Island; and a Bachelor of Science in applied science from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. He is a past president of the Cavalla Historical Foundation, a 501c3 operating the naval history display at Seawolf Park in Galveston; and currently serves as the chair of the San Jacinto Maritime College’s Industry Advisory Board. He is founder and owner of JettyLight, LLC, a marine operations management consultancy.
Jim divides his time between Houston and Galveston. His daughter is a sophomore at University of Houston-Clear Lake, and his son is a senior at Clear Springs High School. He enjoys running, swimming, scuba, golf, music and reading.
