David Jones
Fmr. Chief United States Bankruptcy Judge, Southern District of Texas
David R. Jones was sworn in as a bankruptcy judge for the Southern District of Texas on September 30, 2011. Judge Jones was appointed as chief judge in 2015. Prior to taking the bench, Judge Jones was a partner in the bankruptcy group at Porter Hedges, LLP. Judge Jones received an LLM from Duke University in 2018, his Juris Doctor from the University of Houston in 1992 where he served as editor-in-chief of the HOUSTON LAW REVIEW. Judge Jones received his Master of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University in 1986 and his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Duke University in 1983.
Judge Jones currently presides over the bankruptcy cases of the following energy companies with assets over $500 million: Calfrac Well Services, California Resources Corporation, Covia Holdings Corporation, Denbury Resources, Diamond Offshore Drilling, Fieldwood Energy, FTS International, Hi Crush, Hornbeck Offshore Services, Lonestar Resources, Pioneer Energy Services, Rosehill Resources, Unit Corporation, and Whiting Petroleum Corporation. His courtroom is also the venue for the following non-energy companies with assets over $1 billion: American Commercial Lines, CEC Entertainment (Chuck E. Cheese’s), J.C. Penney Company, Neiman Marcus Group, and Stage Stores.
