What has been the most surprising part of your Rice MBA experience? What surprised me most is how directly applicable my coursework has been to my current role. As an IT consultant, I initially viewed my position as somewhat siloed, since it can get very technical and separate from broader business strategy. However, I’ve learned how to translate complex technical work into clear, high-level overviews that support decision-making for both my team and stakeholders. It’s been rewarding to see how the MBA bridges technical expertise with strategic thinking.
What has been your favorite thing about your MBA experience so far? My favorite experience has been the city treks organized by Rice Business’ Career Development Office. I recently returned from the Seattle trek, and it gave me the confidence to cast a wider net in my job search. It also allowed me to connect with classmates I might not have crossed paths with otherwise. All in all, it was an incredibly rewarding experience.
What is one piece of advice you would share with prospective professional MBA students? Be all in from the start: When you invest fully in the experience, the friendships and connections you build will give that same energy right back to you.
