Anne Chao

Anne S. Chao is a modern Chinese historian and a community volunteer. She graduated from Wellesley College and obtained her PhD in modern Chinese history at Rice University. Her current titles are Adjunct Lecturer in the Humanities and Manager of the Houston Asian American Archive (HAAA), at Rice. She founded HAAA sixteen years ago, and is currently researching for her book on the founder of the Chinese Communist Party, Chen Duxiu. She has used digital humanities tools to research Chinese history and publish articles.

Anne sits on the board of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the Houston Ballet, the Dunhuang Foundation, the National Archives Foundation, Wellesley College and Cooper Union, among others. She is the Co-Founder of the Friends of the National Asian Pacific American Museum, and Co-Chair of the Scholarly Advisory Committee of the Congressional Commission to build such a museum.
