Adrian Trömel
Interim Chief Innovation Officer and Vice President for Innovation, Rice University
Adrian Trömel is interim chief innovation officer and vice president for innovation at Rice University, where he previously served as associate VP for innovation strategy and investments. At Rice, he helped build the Office of Innovation, establishing programs that launch new ventures, channel non-dilutive funding and expand the university’s role as an investor — including through strategic LP commitments and the launch of a university-affiliated venture fund.
Before joining Rice University, Trömel helped build and grow Hamilton Health Box into a leader in telemedicine-enabled primary care for rural and underserved communities. Trömel also served as a Biodesign fellow at the Texas Medical Center, where he co-founded CNX Medical, a noninvasive neurostimulation startup. He also serves as a foreign trade advisor to Luxembourg, advancing economic ties between Texas and the Grand Duchy.
Originally from Luxembourg, Trömel speaks four languages and holds a Master of Science in Materials Science from EPFL in Switzerland and an MBA from Rice Business. Outside of work, he enjoys time with his wife, young son, and their cats, and he finds balance through yoga, piano, sailing and free-diving.
