What has been the most surprising part of your Rice MBA? One of the most remarkable aspects of Rice Business is the remarkable diversity of its class cohort, not only in terms of nationality but also in professional and educational backgrounds. For instance, I have classmates from Paris, Colombia, Japan, and India within my core team. Collaborating with them has been an extraordinary experience, as each individual brings a unique perspective shaped by their cultural heritage, industry, and life experiences. This has enabled me to broaden my understanding of business challenges and appreciate diverse viewpoints.
What has been your favorite thing about your MBA experience? My favorite part of the MBA experience so far has been the incredible networking opportunities and Lilie Lab.
From day one, Rice Business creates an environment where you’re constantly connecting—with classmates, professors, alumni, and industry leaders. Whether it’s through career events, coffee chats, or informal gatherings, I’ve built meaningful relationships that have not only helped me professionally but also personally. The willingness of people—especially Rice alumni—to support, guide, and share their experiences has been truly inspiring.
Another standout for me is the Liu Idea Lab for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (Lilie Lab). It’s an amazing resource on campus that ignites the inner entrepreneur in you, no matter your background. The workshops, speaker series, and hands-on programs constantly push you to think creatively and explore ideas you might never have considered. Even for someone like me, coming from healthcare and operations, the Lilie Lab has opened up a whole new perspective on innovation, start-ups, and building something impactful from the ground up.
What do you love most about Houston?
What I most appreciate about Houston is its affable and welcoming ambiance, both in terms of its climate and its inhabitants.
As an Indian international student, I have thoroughly enjoyed Houston’s temperate winters and sunny days. These favorable conditions have significantly enhanced my enjoyment of exploring the city, attending outdoor events, and simply strolling around the campus.
However, what truly distinguishes Houston is its residents' exceptional warmth and respect, particularly toward Rice University and its students. Throughout the city, there is an unmistakable sense of pride and recognition for Rice, fostering a profound connection between its students and the community. Whether it is attending networking events, patronizing local businesses, or engaging in casual conversations, individuals recognize Rice's invaluable contributions to Houston.
Another aspect that I find particularly gratifying is the accessibility of Indian cuisine. Houston boasts an abundance of excellent Indian restaurants, grocery stores, and cultural events that facilitate my connection to my home country. It is comforting to know that whenever I crave home-cooked cuisine or wish to share my cultural heritage with friends, I have a plethora of options readily available.
What is one piece of advice you would share with a prospective? Be open to exploring new industries, people, and experiences—you’ll be surprised where the MBA journey can take you.
