Fireside Chat with Clutch Founders Madison Long & Simone May

Simone May and Madison Long met 8 years ago as freshmen at Purdue University and became fast friends. There, they studied Computer Science and Accounting, respectively, before graduating and entering corporate America. Two years ago, Simone called Madison with an idea for a student-centric on-demand mobile app, and it was off to the races. 

Over the last two years, they juggled working full-time, pivoting because of Covid, and moving to new cities just to launch their students-only side-hustle platform: Clutch.

Madison Long:

Madison Long is the CEO and co-founder of Clutch, a mobile platform connecting students with side-hustles to those looking for affordable services. Born and raised in Indianapolis, IN, she studied Accounting at Purdue University before beginning her career working in finance at Microsoft. In an effort to gain more experience managing teams and executing large-scale projects, she joined the Sheryl Sandberg & Dave Goldberg Foundation (Lean In) where she co-authored and project managed the launch of the 2020 Women in the Workplace report, the largest report on the state of women in corporate America. In the spring of 2021, she took the leap to work on Clutch full-time and bring it to market with the mission to provide a more accessible, safe, and economically empowering opportunity for college students everywhere.

Simone May:

Simone May is the CTO and co-founder of Clutch. Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, she went on to study Computer Science at Purdue University before beginning her career with Accenture. As a Technology Consultant, she learned industry standards for building enterprise resource planning (ERP) platforms, best practices for launching mobile apps, and became a highly-effective product owner. Simone leveraged these experiences to start the company, Clutch, with Madison in March of 2019. She has a passion for uplifting women like herself in the engineering field which is why she is a part of organizations such as Girls Who Code, NSBE and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.
