Rice Business Partners' Faculty Roundtable Discussion with Professor Richard Baraniuk
Join us for a faculty roundtable with Richard Baraniuk, C. Sidney Burrus Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, as he explores a grassroots movement that is sweeping through the academic world. The "open access movement" is based on a set of intuitions that are shared by a remarkably wide range of academics: that knowledge should be free and open to use and re-use; that collaboration should be easier, not harder; that people should receive credit and kudos for contributing to education and research; and that concepts and ideas are linked in unusual and surprising ways and not the simple linear forms that traditional media present. This talk will discuss the past, present, and future of the open-access textbook movement from the perspective of the OpenStax platform and publishing initiative. Special attention will be paid to the role that new technologies like AI can play in improving the quality and reach of education.
Beyond the discussion, this roundtable also offers a unique opportunity to connect with fellow Rice Business Partners, alumni, and leaders across industries. Attendees will have time to exchange ideas, share experiences, and build relationships that extend well beyond the conversation.
