Global Experience: Colombia 2017

Global corporations have made considerable investments in the Houston area. More than 5,000 companies in Houston do business overseas. And our city’s connections to international business is reinforced by the 70 countries that are served by Houston airports.

Learn more about our recent trip to Colombia.

So it only makes sense for Rice Business to offer outstanding global experience opportunities for our students.

Global Immersion

All full-time MBA students participate in the Global Immersion program, which is part of the core curriculum and takes place in May after students’ first year. In 2018, full-time MBA students will engage in consulting projects in São Paulo and Rio in Brazil lasting 7-10 days.

Assignments within these projects will be concentration-specific — so, for example, those interested in finance would be placed on a finance related project at in-country companies — and students will work with teams of other Rice MBA students.

This unique experiential learning experience gives students the opportunity to apply what was learned in their first year to real-world business situations. Students also, of course, gain exposure to another country and its culture, as well as forge closer bonds with their classmates.

International Seminars

Rice Business also offers opportunities for students to attend international seminars hosted by other business schools across the world. Our students attend these seminars — which typically last one to three weeks — in countries across the globe. Some recent examples:

  • Doing Business in Mexico Seminar: IPADE Business School, Mexico City, Mexico. Spring Break (1 week)
  • INCAE Sustainability Seminar: INCAE University, Alajuela, Costa Rica, Winter Break (2 weeks)
  • WHU European MBA Summer Institute: WHU Vallendar, Germany, May – Summer Break (2 weeks)

Global Intersessions

Rice Business also hosts Global Intersessions, where our faculty members lead trips to other countries. These optional sessions usually last 7 - 10 days and help students gain valuable exposure to different cultures, make business contacts, hear from dynamic speakers and network with alumni.

Upcoming Intersessions:

  • October 2017 – China: Beijing and Shanghai
  • January 2018 – Colombia: Cartagena and Bogota
