Jay Hawthorn

Jay Hawthorn is a Managing Director in the Global Mergers and Acquisitions Group at Barclays. Mr. Hawthorn focuses primarily on the power, utility, and infrastructure industries.
Prior to joining Barclays in 2008 following its acquisition of Lehman Brothers’ operating businesses, Mr. Hawthorn held the same position within Global Mergers & Acquisitions at Lehman Brothers. Before joining Lehman Brothers in 2005, Mr. Hawthorn was a commodities trader in various divisions of Enron Corp.
Mr. Hawthorn is a graduate of Vanderbilt University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics in 1998. He also earned an MBA from the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University, where he was a Jones Scholar, in 2005.
Mr. Hawthorn serves on the Alumni Board of the Jones School at Rice, and stays involved with the school by organizing alumni events in the New York area and working to keep the community together. He works closely with the Jones School’s Admissions Department, conducting regional interviews and staying in contact with admitted prospective students as a Jones Alumni Volunteers for Admission (JAVA) ambassador and as a mentor to a 2nd year student through the Jones School’s Alumni Mentoring Program.
