Rice University student-founded companies took home a total of $115,000 in equity-free funding at the annual Liu Idea Lab for Innovation and Entrepreneurship's H. Albert Napier Rice Launch Challenge last week. 2025 Rice Innovation Fellow Alexandria Carter won the top prize and $50,000 for her startup Bionostic.

School Updates
Alex Cantin is graduating this May with a degree in business management, including a minor in entrepreneurship, from the Virani Undergraduate School of Business at Rice and will join McKinsey as a consultant. Cantin said he chose Rice because of the faculty-student ratio and because he would be one of the early graduates of the new Virani School.

A list based on MBA-salary-to-tuition ratio got an update following the release of the latest U.S. News & World Report ranking, and it placed Rice Business near the top with a ratio of 1.10.
The latest edition of U.S. News and World Report’s “Best Graduate Schools” ranks Rice Business No. 24 nationally — up from No. 27 a year ago — and two programs in the nation's top 25: entrepreneurship (tied for No. 10) and the professional MBA program that U.S. News ranks in its part-time MBA category (No. 15).

More Houston hospital workers now have access to on-demand mobile ordering thanks to a Houston startup. Rivalry Tech, co-founded by Aaron Knape '08. The company rolled out its its mobile ordering platform, myEATz, into five of Houston Methodist's hospital cafes.
“With all the digital media and all the conversations or videos being recorded these days,” said Jae Chung, an assistant professor of marketing at Rice, “there’s always a greater chance or a greater risk associated with the idea of using a particular person’s name to name the whole mission or the whole project.”
