Dr. Nathan Deal is a skilled hospital executive with years of experience working in complex, highly integrated health systems and current serves as a Chief Medical Officer with HCA Healthcare. Trained as an Emergency Medicine Physician, Dr. Deal has held several leadership positions in emergency departments before moving into health system leadership. Under his leadership as a public health system Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Deal oversaw a medical staff of several thousand providers and modernized the quality and safety departments with a focus towards increased transparency and data-driven decision making. He then held the chief administrator position for a 400+ bed, tertiary-care public hospital, where Dr. Deal developed new clinical service offerings, advanced patient experience, achieved the hospital’s first Magnet designation and implemented a number of cost containment strategies. Dr. Deal joined HCA in 2023, serving as the CMO for two hospitals in greater Houston until 2026, when he transitioned to a Division role, supporting 16 hospitals across the Gulf Coast Division. Dr. Deal’s highly collaborative style, and experience in a number of executive roles, brings a unique perspective to hospital and health system leadership.
