What about the Rice MBA program has surprised you the most?
What has surprised me the most are how amazing my classmates are. As a female, I was worried about a male-dominated culture and unfriendly, competitive people. It has been the total opposite! I have made so many friends, and I know I will be friends with many of these people for the rest of my life.
What has been your favorite moment of your Rice MBA experience so far?
My favorite moment of the Rice MBA thus far has been bonding with my team (I know, that is more than one moment...). We have all gotten along so well and have bonded over late nights, growing pains, and numerous victories. If I had to choose one moment with them, it would actually be when we all provided each other with feedback on our strengths and weaknesses. It is just so great to know that I am surrounded by people who are genuinely invested in making me a better person.
What is your favorite thing about and/or favorite spot in Houston?
My favorite thing about Houston is the food! I love trying new restaurants and organizing get togethers to try new food. This year, I organized Women's Wine Night for all the women in the MBA for Professionals, and we've tried a new restaurant (that serves wine, of course!) nearly every month! My favorite brunch spot is Caracol; my favorite dinner spot it Etoile; my favorite wine spot is Camerate; my favorite good cocktail spot is Tongue Cut Sparrow; and my favorite coffee spot is Boomtown.
In a sentence, what is the one piece of advice you have for prospective students?
Invest in a good coffee maker and good coffee before starting the program.
