Jamie Hickman
Major, U.S. Army
Major Jamie Lynn Hickman is a decorated Army officer. Her 18 years of service began when she enlisted in 2001. In 2009 she joined the officer ranks and has served in many leadership positions. Her first duty assignment after commissioning was in 4-2 Attack Battalion at Camp Humphreys, Korea where she served as an Aviation Maintenance Platoon Leader, Executive Officer in Delta company and as the Battalion S-4. Jamie also served as the adjutant to the Commander for the 2d Combat Aviation Brigade. While forward deployed to South Korea-Jamie commanded the Headquarters and Headquarters company, 2d Combat Aviation Brigade at Camp Humphreys, Korea. Following company command Jamie was an Instructor and Assistant Professor at the United States Military Academy at West Point. She is currently assigned as the Support Operations officer in the 1st Cavalry Division, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade at Fort Hood, Texas. Jamie has deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom I and IV to Camp Speicher, Iraq and Balad, Iraq.
Jamie holds a Masters of Education (Ed.M) from the Teachers College, Columbia University, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Maryland University College and a Masters of Defense and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College. She was also a graduate fellow at Indiana University’s Institute for Defense and Business, where she completed the Strategic Studies Fellows Program in National Defense and Cyber Security. She is currently a doctoral student at Teachers College, Columbia University.
Jamie completed the Master Teacher Program (MTP) at the United States Military academy at West Point which included a capstone project of a literature review called Leaders Making Leaders: Crafting Effective Learning Strategies that Promote Army Leadership. Other publications include: “Taking A Deep Dive into Strategic Thinking.” Army Magazine, August 2018. “Turning Korea Around: An Analysis of Chipyong-Ni.” Journal of Defense Management, June 2018, and “Smart Military Leaders Take Time to reflect.” Army Magazine, April 2019. Additionally she is Lean Six Sigma (yellow belt) certified and has received her certification in Collective Intelligence in Organizations at Teachers College, Columbia University (emotional, social and cultural intelligence). Jamie was a panelist at the 2018 National Women in Leadership in Higher Education Conference held at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA in 2018 as well as a guest speaker at the Endow Women’s Conference, held in Atlanta, GA in 2016.
Her awards and decorations include: The Army Meritorious Unit Citation Medal (1OLC), The Army Superior Unit Award, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (2 OLC), Commanders Award for Civilian Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (2 Knots), Army National Service Defense Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal (1 BS), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Oversees Service Medal (3 OLC), Korean Service Medal, Korea Ambassador Award, the Presidents Volunteer Service Award (Gold x2) as well as the Quartermaster Order of Saint Martin.
Jamie is the co-owner and managing director of Chameleon Kids LLC, which publishes the award winning Military Kids’ Life Magazine, a quarterly print publication for school-age children and military families. She is also is the co-owner of Asia Hickman Music Inc., a non-profit organization that provides music lessons to under privileged children and volunteers for the Miss America Organization as the Executive Director of the Miss New York Competition. She is married to Marc I. Hickman of Lithonia, GA. and they have one daughter, Asia (16).
