James S. Turley
Retired Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Ernst & Young
James S. Turley, who served as a Rice Trustee from 2007 until June 2015, retired as chairman and CEO of Ernst & Young, a leading global professional services organization providing assurance, tax, transaction, and advisory services, in 2013. He is a member of the boards of directors of Citigroup, Northrop Grumman, Intrexon and Emerson Electric Company.
A member of the Jones Graduate School of Business Council of Overseers, Mr. Turley earned a B.A. in economics and a Master of Accounting from Rice in 1977 and 1978, respectively. In 2007, the Association of Rice Alumni presented him with the Distinguished Alumni Award. He is chairman of the board of Theatre Forward, formerly known as the National Corporate Theater Fund and a board member of the Boy Scouts of America National Council.
Members of the William Marsh Rice Society, Mr. and Mrs. Turley have been instrumental in helping the Jones School re-launch the Master of Accounting program. Their investment in the MAcc program has helped to establish the James S. Turley-Ernst & Young Leadership Development Initiative, which will support offering scholarships to students and help Rice develop innovative leaders in the accounting sector.
Mr. Turley is married to Lynne Pounds Turley. The couple has one son, James S. Turley, Jr.
