Adjunct Professor in Management – Real Estate
Jim Mastandrea has more than 40 years of experience in commercial real estate, spanning multiple levels of adding value from financing, homebuilding, developing and building, owning and operating to investing and growing counter culture internet resistant retail community centers. Jim is recognized as a leading expert in both real estate and the capital markets.
He is currently serving as the Chairman and CEO of Whitestone REIT (NYSE: WSR), a position he has held since 2006. He also maintains substantial interest and holds similar titles in Pillartsone Capital REIT (OTC: PRLE) since 2003 and MDC Realty Corporation a private real estate company he founded in 1978. Previously, Mr. Mastandrea served as Chairman and CEO of First Union Real Estate Investment Trust (NYSE: FUR) from 1994 – 1998.
Jim currently teaches as an adjunct professor at Rice University in the Jones Graduate School of Business; speaks as a guest at the University of Chicago Booth Graduate School of Business; and is a frequent speaker, by invitation, at Institutional Investor conferences in the United States and Europe. In 2000, he was awarded the Outstanding Alumni Award from Cleveland State University and was Chairman of the Business School’s Visiting Committee. Mr. Mastandrea received the Transformational CEO EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2017 Award. Jim serves as a Director of the Cleveland State University Foundation Board. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Cleveland State University and a Master’s Degree in Economics from Miami University of Ohio.
