What about the Rice MBA program has surprised you the most?
The speed that we move at! It's not bad, but it's something to get used to when you're working full time and moving at your own pace. Suddenly you have a list of events every single week, and every night of the week contains some kind of presentation, deliverable, class, project, or lecture. I love how invigorating it is, but it was definitely a surprise.
What has been your favorite moment of your Rice MBA experience so far?
I actually really enjoyed launch week/immersion week. It was totally exhausting to meet from sunrise until midnight each day for almost a week, but it was an incredible way to bond with my teammates and classmates. It also really set the scene for the program, helping me get back up to speed. It can be cumbersome to go back to school from a full-time job, and immersion week put me back in school mode with ease.
What is your favorite thing about and/or favorite spot in Houston?
I grew up here so I'm biased, but I love everything about Houston save for the weather June-August! I think my favorite spot in Houston is the Memorial Park forest trail. Houston has an abundance of fun restaurants, bars, museums, and more, but the forest trails that weave through the depth of Memorial Park provide such a nice escape from the noise without driving more than 10 or 15 minutes from most inner-city locations.
In a sentence, what is the one piece of advice you have for prospective students?
Get involved! Rice is rich with extracurricular opportunities from leadership development programs that will drive a better understanding of your psychology and your organizational skills, to a long list of fun clubs. The more you can get involved with outside of class, the more you take away from the experience. Two years can fly by, but heavy participation in these events and circles can really maximize your time at Rice and expose you to some truly amazing peers.
