David VanHorn has served as an Adjunct Professor of Management since 2007 at the Jones School, where he created and teaches the second-year Capstone course for the MBA-P and EMBA programs. VanHorn has over 20 years of experience in management consulting and industry. He is a Principal with Archstone Consulting, a strategy and operations consulting organization within the Hackett Group, where he has sold and led numerous consulting engagements addressing corporate strategy, operations/supply chain, and product development/engineering concerns across a wide manufacturing client base. Before joining Archstone Consulting in May 2005, VanHorn was a Senior Manager in the Manufacturing Industry practice of Deloitte Consulting and, prior to business school, a Prinicipal Engineer with the Boeing Company in Houston, where he served in multiple program management and technical roles on the Space Station and Shuttle/Mir programs while co-authoring five technical papers.
VanHorn has been working extensively with the non-profit community for over ten years through leadership positions and the Capstone course. Among the 20+ community organizations with which he has worked are KIPP-Houston, Neighborhood Centers Inc., Houston Achievement Place, Collaborative for Children, Ibn Sina Clinics, Hermann Park Conservancy, Historic Houston, and Healthcare for Homeless – Houston. He has also been very active with the alumni associations of his alma maters, including serving as President for two terms of the Jones Graduate School Alumni Association (JGSAA) and in various leadership positions on the Boards of Directors of the Iowa State University Alumni Association (ISUAA), the Association of Rice Alumni (ARA), and the Jones Partners at Rice University.
VanHorn received his M.B.A. from the Jones School in 2000. He earned a B.S. and M.S. in Aerospace Engineering from Iowa State University in 1989 and 1990, respectively, where he was a Honeywell Engineering/Business Fellowship recipient.
