Leah McKnight, MBA candidate at the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business, received the Ruth and Gilbert Whitaker Endowed Scholarship. She credits this scholarship support for easing her transition from working as a political action committee fundraiser in Washington, D.C., to studying full time as a graduate student at Rice. Without this support, she says, she would have been restricted to enrolling in a part-time program.
“At the Jones School, I found an intimate learning environment where I could really form a relationship with faculty and students,” Leah said. “And as a first-year student, I had the opportunity to work one-on-one with Houston companies. That early connection to the community has been very important to me.”
Leah is serving a year-long term (2008–09) as the national student director for the National Association of Women MBAs. She hopes to remain in Houston and enter the health care industry after graduation.
