Rauli Garcia is Chief Financial Officer of Houston Grand Opera. In this capacity, he manages the accounting, budget, tax, audit, HR and IT activities of one of the nation’s largest opera companies, with an annual budget of over $25 million. He leads the opera’s senior management team in the preparation of annual operating budgets and financials, and works with the board of trustees of the HGO Endowment to provide oversight to the endowment’s portfolio.
Prior to joining HGO in 2008, Mr. Garcia was a vice president with investment advisor Paul Comstock Partners, where he oversaw the institutional client portfolio, client development and relationships, with a particular emphasis on foundation and endowment portfolio management, estate planning, charitable trusts and wealth management. He has also worked for Frontier Investment Management in Dallas and Charles Schwab in Denver and Austin. He holds a Certified Financial Planner certificate and an American Humanics certificate in nonprofit management.
Mr. Garcia earned his Master of Business Administration from the Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University, where he was elected class representative for two years. He earned his Bachelor of Science in psychology from the University of Houston.
Mr. Garcia continues to be actively involved with Rice University where he serves as a member of the board for the Jones Partners at the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business, where he also acts as a student candidate interviewer. In 2010, he originated the Jones Graduate School Alumni Night at Houston Grand Opera. Mr. Garcia is also a member of the Rice University Alumni Association.
Outside of his activities with Rice University, Mr. Garcia serves as a member of the Rugby Texas Board and on the Planned Giving Committee of University of St. Thomas. He and his wife, Danna are the proud parents of two children, Alex and Joey.
