ConocoPhillips Chief Economist to speak at Rice University

Accompanying presentation on strategic management by Professor Haiyang Li

The Jones Graduate School of Management at Rice University presents Marianne Kah, Chief Economist of ConocoPhillips, and Jones School Associate Professor of Management Dr. Haiyang Li, on April 7, 2009.

The two-time recipient of the 50 Key Women in Energy Award, Marianne Kah is known for her key role in U.S. energy policy, through her work with the U.S. Senate Energy Committee and House Fossil and Synthetic Fuels Subcommittee on oil supply disruptions, coal mining productivity, and energy emergency preparedness. At ConocoPhillips, she is responsible for developing the company’s market outlooks for global oil, natural gas, refining and marketing, and conducting special strategic studies.  

In her presentation, Ms. Kah will address “Challenges Facing the Oil and Natural Gas Industry,” with a focus on the current economic downturn, cost inflation, geopolitics, U.S. policy and climate change regulation.

An accompanying lecture by Dr. Haiyang Li will focus on “Globalization and Multinationals’ Innovation in Emerging Markets.” Dr. Li is a well-published specialist in strategic management and entrepreneurship, whose research focuses on technology and innovation particularly in China’s transition economy, strategic alliances, and multinationals.  

The presentations are part of the Thought Leadership Series hosted by the Jones Partners, a committed group of business leaders working to open doors and build ties between the Jones School and the Houston business community. The networking reception will begin at 6 p.m. and the program will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Jones School’s McNair Hall at Rice University.

There is a $25 charge for this event. Admission is free for Women’s Energy Network members, Jones Partners and their guests
