Rice MBA Team One of Two US Teams in Business Competition in Singapore
HOUSTON, March 9, 2006—The Rice MBA business team, “Beautiful Minds,” was one of only eight teams from around the globe to make the final round of competition for the Cerebration 2006 Business Plan competition to be held in Singapore at the end of March 27-29, 2006.
Cerebration is a global business challenge which incorporates elements of business plan and business case competition. The competition focus is on international expansion and centered on real case studies of four leading Singapore companies.
The event is organized annually by the National University of Singapore (NUS) Business School and this year attracted 641 teams from 117 universities in 31 countries. The Rice MBA team made it through three rounds of case competition and was selected by judges as a top eight finalist team, one of two teams in the United States to make the finals; the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University was the second U.S. team to make the finals.
The team is made up of four extremely talented first- year MBAs: Michael Lowe, Gaurav Ramaiya, Khushboo Gupta, and Claudia Mele.
Team member Gaurav Ramaiya said, “Our team is very excited about being selected and promise to make Rice University and the Jones School proud at the competition.”
The “Beautiful Minds” team will travel on an all- expense paid trip to Singapore where they will present to the judges. Six out of the eight teams will make it to the Grand Finals. The six finalists will be given a twister, an unexpected circumstance/ situation that the team must incorporate into their business plans. The three best teams will be selected and awarded cash prizes. The total cash prize at stake is over $18,000.
