Rice Ph.D. students and professor awarded in Consumer Insights Challenge

Two research proposals by Professor of Management Utpal Dholakia were announced as winners of the 2014 Consumer Insights Challenge at the Georgetown Institute for Consumer Research (GICR), an academic institute within the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University. Dholakia’s co-authors on one of the proposals were first-year marketing Ph.D. students Jihye Jung and Nivriti Chowdhry.

Shopping the Closet or Recalling Recent Use? is the proposal submitted with Jones School Ph.D. students and Shopping Attitudes and Financial Decisions was submitted with Leonard Lee of Columbia University and Leona Tam of University of Wollongong.

Each of the six winning teams of researchers will receive up to 500 responses to a 10-minute survey-based study from a nationally representative sample provided by the NPD Group and GICR, as well as support from the GICR team prior to data collection.

A preeminent source for consumer research, GICR supports, conducts and disseminates scientifically rigorous research that leads to innovative and actionable insights about consumers with the purpose of helping practitioners and consumers make better decisions.
