Mr. L.E. Simmons is the founder and President of SCF Partners, a private equity firm that manages a portfolio of energy service companies. The firm started in 1989 and has offices in Houston, Texas and Calgary, Alberta and Aberdeen, Scotland. The firm’s $2 billion portfolio covers companies operating throughout the world. The investment limited partners of SCF are primarily endowments, including Stanford University, Duke University, Rice University, University of Texas, Northwestern University, University of Notre Dame, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and private families.
Over the last 19 years, SCF has acquired 46 companies that have been the foundation for business growth. These businesses have acquired approximately 150 additional companies throughout the world. The aggregate acquisition value is in excess of $6.3 billion.
Prior to founding SCF, he co-founded Simmons & Company International, the leading investment banking firm to oilfield service companies, in which he was a partner between 1974 and 1989. Prior to Simmons & Company International, Mr. Simmons helped start a corporate finance department and was the first Corporate Finance Officer at The First National Bank of Chicago. Mr. Simmons finished his senior year of college at the London School of Economics; he graduated cum laude from the University of Utah with a degree in Economics and earned his MBA from Harvard University in 1972.
