Rice Hosts 9th Annual Women in Leadership Conference
February 18, 2009
- Approximately 300 professional women in Houston and MBA students from Rice University’s Jones School of Management as well as other local universities attended the 9th Annual Women in Leadership Conference on Feb. 13, 2009 at McNair Hall at the Jones Graduate School of Management. Hosted by the Rice University Chapter of the National Association of Women MBAs, the 2009 conference, “Connect: The Power of Networking,” focused particularly on promoting connections between conference attendees and improving their lifelong networking skills.
This year’s conference raised more than $20,000 earmarked as scholarship funds to be awarded to four exceptional women currently pursuing their MBAs at Rice. Sponsors included Shell Oil Company, Chevron, Spectra Energy, Reliant Energy, Lockton Companies, and ConocoPhillips.
The half-day conference featured a morning keynote speech by Jo Miller, CEO of Women’s Leadership Coaching, who gave the presentation, “Creating a Network of Influence,” and the closing keynote was given by Janet Clark, CFO and Executive VP of Marathon Oil. For the first time, this year, the conference hosted a networking fair that allowed attendees to learn about and expand their connections with Houston-area organizations. Attendees also attended breakout sessions focused on both personal development and current topics in business.
For the past eight years, Rice University Chapter of NAWMBA has held a Women in Leadership Conference to educate, enlighten, and motivate women from across various industries throughout the Houston area on current business topics and women’s issues in the workplace.
