Jones Partners to host “Real Estate Markets and Credit Crisis” lecture
In light of the financial crisis affecting the U.S. economy, join us for the Jones Partners Thought Leadership lecture on real estate markets and the credit crisis on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at the Jones Graduate School of Management at Rice University.
Event speakers are: Dr. Ted Jones, Senior Vice President-Chief Economist for Stewart Title Guaranty Company and former chief economist of the Texas A&M University Real Estate Center; Barbara Ostdiek, Associate Professor of Finance and Director of the El Paso Corporation Finance Center at Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Management; Jefferson Duarte, Gerald D. Hines Real Estate Visiting Associate Professor of Real Estate Finance at Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Management and Associate Professor of Finance at the University of Washington.
The lecturers will provide an overview of the current issues troubling our country including the rising cost of gasoline, the dramatic stock market swings, and the declining value of the U.S. currency. Presentations will also focus on aspects the real estate markets including sinking property values and sub-prime mortgage failures and hope to offer a coherent economic outlook for the nation, Texas, and Houston.
About the Speakers:
Dr. Ted Jones is Director of Investor Relations for Stewart Information Services Corporation (NYSE-STC) and also Senior Vice President-Chief Economist for Stewart Title Guaranty Company. Prior to joining Stewart he served as chief economist at Texas A&M University’s Real Estate Center, the nation’s largest publicly funded real estate research group, and taught at Lincoln College, University of Canterbury in New Zealand. An internationally-recognized real estate expert, Dr. Jones has completed appraisals and property analysis in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, and the U.S. He has completed numerous mass-appraisal assignments including more than $3 billion of income producing property owned by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
Barbara Ostdiek is an Associate Professor of Finance and Academic Director of the El Paso Corporation Finance Center. A member of the faculty since 1994, she teaches Economic Environment of Business and Investments. Her research focuses on market volatility and information flow in financial markets. She received her Ph.D. from Duke University.
Jefferson Duarte is the Gerald D. Hines Visiting Associate Professor of Real Estate Finance. He teaches real estate finance, and his current research focuses on asset pricing with an emphasis on mortgage and other fixed income markets. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.
