Jones School’s Net Impact Chapter - Rice MBA students to make a difference

July 19, 2008 - Saturday morning when most of us were still sleeping, 32 Rice MBA student volunteers were working to make a difference in the lives of two families displaced by hurricane Katrina.   They were working to complete two Houston Habitat for Humanity houses.  These new houses will be homes for these families who have migrated to the Houston area.  Students on the team came from both the daytime and professional programs.  For some it was a time to reconnect before starting their last year at Jones.  For others, it was their first introduction to the Jones family.

Net Impact Chapter - Habitat for HumanityTogether, they worked to install siding and easements on two neighboring houses.  The NCAA sponsored 10 houses which student athletes started building during the NCAA March Madness Basketball tournament hosted in Houston this year.

With a few hours of work, a lot of sweat, a lot of water, and a lot of laughter, we helped Habitat finish their project and we made an impact on a fellow Houstonians’  lives.

This volunteer opportunity was organized by the Jones School’s Net Impact Chapter.
