Stephen Zeff - Anthony G. Hopwood Award Large Photoreceives award to honor lifetime service

Stephen A. Zeff, the Herbert S. Autrey Professor of Accounting, is the first recipient of the prestigious Anthony G. Hopwood Award for Academic Leadership, to honor his lifetime service to the European Accounting Association (EAA). He was given the award on May 12-15 2009 in Tampere, Finland, at the opening session of the 32nd EAA Annual Congress, a major conference that was attended by 1,100 congress delegates from more than 50 countries.

The Hopwood Award is not given every year, but only when the EAA's leaders believe that a worthy recipient is in view. It was named after the founder of the EAA, which is now the second largest organization of accounting academics in the world, with about 1,500 members.

Dr. Zeff joined the faculty in 1978. He has been editor of The Accounting Review and president of the American Accounting.

Since one year after the founding of the EAA in 1977, Dr. Zeff has been actively involved with the organization. He served as a faculty member of the EAA’s Doctoral Colloquium for 15 years (1985-2000) and has served on EAA's Executive Committee, now called the Board, from 1981 to 2009. Additionally, Dr. Zeff has been on the editorial board of the EAA's two research journals, The European Accounting Review and Accounting in Europe, since their founding in 1991 and 2003, respectively.
