Jones School Welcomes Brock Wagner, Founder and President, Saint Arnold Brewing Company, December 5

HOUSTON, November 29, 2006—Rice alumnus Brock Wagner (’87), founder and president, Saint Arnold Brewing Company, will speak Tuesday, December 5 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the Shell Oil Foundation Auditorium, Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management, Janice and Robert McNair Hall, Rice University. Wagner's lecture will address "Building Brand Appeal in the Craft Brewing Industry."

The highly competitive US craft beer industry includes more than 1,300 small, traditional and independent packaging breweries and brewpubs. Profitability in the industry is heavily driven by the ability of craft brewers to create and expand brand appeal in a marketplace where constant competitive pressure punishes stagnation severely. Wagner will discuss how Saint Arnold has applied principles of economics, marketing, and brand management to achieve robust revenue and profit performance for over a decade.

About Brock Wagner and Saint Arnold Brewing Company
Named for the patron saint of brewers, Houston’s Saint Arnold Brewing Company is the oldest craft brewery in Texas. Saint Arnold beers have received numerous accolades and awards in international beer competitions and the company’s ever-expanding distribution territory now includes the Austin, Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio metropolitan areas. Saint Arnold continues to experience strong demand—with production growth outpacing the impressive overall expansion of America’s craft brewers. Saint Arnold Brewing produced a record 10,946 31-gallon barrels in 2005, an increase of 20 percent over 2004.

Wagner received his BA in economics and managerial studies from Rice University.
