Week on Wall Street Trek
This is the premiere club event for JGSB students in their first year. During the Fall break, the RFC travels to NYC and visits with alums and professionals at the major Wall Street firms and on the last night attends an exclusive alumni-networking event. Each visit typically consists of a panel of professionals from different divisions within the firm, providing insight into the firm's culture and work-life of each role. In 2009, the RFC visited with:
- Blackrock
- Citi
- Credit Suisse
- Deutsche Bank
- Soros Fund Management
- Merrill Lynch
- Moelis & Company
- UBS
Dallas and Houston Corporate Finance Treks
The RFC will conduct a parallel trek during the Week on Wall Street for those interested in corporate finance positions. This trek will include a two day trek to Houston companies followed by three days in Dallas. This trek will provide first and second years opportunities to network with alums and recruiters.
Rice Energy Finance Summit
The Rice Energy Finance Summit is a conference designed to facilitate the exchange of ideas and perspectives between leaders in the energy and finance industries, as well as to provide a networking opportunity for students and alumni. The 2011 Rice Energy Finance Summit will be held on Thursday, October 27th at McNair Hall. The speakers for the 2010 summit were Luis Giusti (Senior Adviser at Center for Strategic & International Studies), Pierre Breber (Vice President and Treasurer, Chevron Corporation), Janet Clark (Chief Financial Officer, Marathon Oil), Larry Nettles (Senior Partner, Vinson & Elkins), Bradley D. Beitler (Vice President of Technology, FMC Technologies), and Rod Nelson (Vice President, Communications, Schlumberger).
Corporate Valuation Seminar
This is a one-day corporate valuation modeling workshop taught by Training the Street, the world's leading provider of instructor-led courses. This seminar assists candidates seeking employment with a Wall Street firm and in the field of finance. Through practical examples and exercises, the seminar illustrates the fundamentals of popular valuation techniques used by Wall Street practitioners. The seminar also discusses applications of key valuation concepts such as EBITDA, Enterprise Value, WACC, accretion / dilution and LBOs. RFC members enjoy a large discount since much of the cost is subsidized by the CMC.
Financial Modeling Seminar
This is a two-day financial modeling seminar taught by Training the Street, the world's leading provider of instructor-led courses. The course is designed to develop financial modeling skills through actual hands-on construction of a financial model. Each participant will build their own interactive financial model from "scratch" to practice blending accounting, finance and Excel skills. RFC members enjoy a large discount since much of the cost is subsidized by the CMC.
Oil and Gas Modeling Seminar
This is a two-day financial modeling seminar, taught by Wall Street Prep, that focuses specifically on the Oil and Gas industry. Since most JGSB students pursue positions in energy finance, this course is invaluable for RFC members. RFC members enjoy a large discount since much of the cost is subsidized by the CMC.
Resumania
Soon after the completion of pre-term, first-year members will be provided the opportunity to have their resumes reviewed and career interests discussed with second-year members. This provides first-years one of the first opportunities to network with second-years.
